2023 Willamette Valley Gamay Noir
We have been growing Gamay Noir in our estate vineyard since 1994, and have just shy of a half acre dedicated to it. Since it's first release in 2019, our Gamay has been exclusively from our own vineyard.
Gamay grapes are the last to be
harvested in our estate vineyard, and the fruit for this 2023 rendition
was picked in late September We retained about 30% of the whole
clusters, with the balance gently destemmed. After a 16 day
maceration/fermentation the new wine flowed directly into neutral
barrels. The
wine stayed in the cellar for a full year, and was bottled the following
winter.
In the warm 2023 growing season, the fruit achieved
full ripeness while retaining it's distinctive "gamay-ness". Look for
primary grape flavors and spicy
aromas, medium body, and freshness on the palate. Serve at cool cellar
temperature with simple grilled foods. This is not a wine for ageing, so
enjoy it in it’s
youth!
