This is the third
edition of our newest estate Pinot, a special barrel selection from a
section of the vineyard planted in 1999, the year our daughter Riona was
born. This block is distinctive due to a vein of volcanic ash
embedded in the sandstone formation beneath the vineyard, imparting a
distinct spicy character that is unique to this part of the property.
The wine is made with 27% whole cluster, a bit more than we typically
employ, to accent the high toned aromatics and contribute mouth-filling tannins. The
barrel regime is similar to our Belle Pente vineyard pinot,
highlighting the inherent differences between the east and west side of
the property. Accessible now, it will really shine with a few years in the cellar.
