2016 Willamette Valley Pinot Noir

sold out

2016 Willamette Valley Pinot Noir

from 22.50

Due to the relatively low yields in 2016, this version of our Willamette Valley Pinot noir is “Yamhill-Carlton heavy”. Although it includes grapes from 4 vineyards, the Yamhill-Carlton sites account for 80% of the blend, with most of the fruit coming from our Belle Pente estate vineyard, supplemented by a small portion from Foxy Rock vineyard.  The balance is from Dundee Hills sites (Murto and Bella Vida vineyards). So although it is a “mere” Willamette Valley bottling, all of the grapes come from top appellations within the valley (kind of like a Bourgogne rouge sourced exclusively from Gevrey and Vosne vineyards!)

This is a Pinot with pedigree.  The 2008 and 2013 renditions were the highest rated wines in the New York Times annual Oregon Pinot "round-up", and the best values.  Our Willamette Valley bottling has been regularly featured as a premium glass pour Pinot at great restaurants around the country.  And it has been the "go to" Wednesday night wine for savvy Pinot-philes everywhere since it's first release in the 1998 vintage.

With the preponderance of Yamhill-Carlton fruit, this wine shows a little darker and denser than many recent vintages. A somewhat reticent nose reveals hints of blue, and black fruits complicated by whiffs of spice box and herb garden.  The dark fruit carries through to the palate, which is rich and ripe but also focused and balanced. The 2015 vintage was generous in quality, but shy in quantity, elevating the status of this delicious little cuvee from a “really good deal” to an “incredible value”.

Enjoy now and over the next several years!
